With the leadership of Kathy Meadows and Bob Grimmett, the Chamber re-established itself through the WV Secretary of State's office. The Chamber was re-established in January 2009 and had to revisit the debts and problems left behind from the original Chamber. There was a great need for this service due to the economical problems and the Century Aluminum plant shutting down. The commerce and morale in the town was declining fast and it was up to us to take action. Since its beginning in Jan. 2009, the Chamber has contributed in a variety of programs and events that ultimatley helped the town and we will continue to help our town.

Ravenswood is an exeptional community to raise a family or enjoy un-harried shopping. our parks, recreation and shopping combined with the historical significance of Ravenswood make our community a stand out environment to enrich the arts, educate our children and visitors while enjoying a lifestyle with little stress.

During the 2009 year the community generated Greater Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce focused on helping the youth groups to maintain quality in their programs by awarding a scholarship to the graduating senior, sponsored a donation to a Ravenswood pagent participant. We also created programs for sporting events and made donations for award ceremonies for youth programs such as youth wrestling, soccer, and more!

The chamber worked closely with the City of Ravenswood to move a step closer in the application for the on-Track program, a precursor to the Main Street program which once designated, will help in receipt of grant monies to further enhance our city. We provide a group to attend a 5-year developmental meeting held in Charleston. We were the only Jackson County delegation in attendance. This meeting allowed for creative and constructive correspondance with officials who are currently planning programs and expansions for our area.

The Greater Ravenswood Chamber was instrumental in helping the No-Hunger Food Pantry with the move into the new location at Walnut Street and Virginia Street. We promoted food drives and donated a computer system to increase the pantry's efficiency. At a later date the Chamber collected donations to place a new copier/printer inside the food pantry. This enabled accurate records and productivity. It translated into helping pantry patrons to be able to continue to buy necessities from local area merchants. This was no small task as the pantry's latest numbers reflect the October 2009 produced 406 people served. That equals 1/10 of our city's population.

The Greater Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce would like you to join our group. We are seeking civic minded people who are concerned with the development of the environment of which they live and work. We need to be a unified group who can interact with other business owners and groups who share the same goals.
